The numerator: patients for whom there was a documented screening for behavioral and psychiatric symptoms, including depression, and for whom, if screening was positive, there was also documentation of management recommendations (See measure specifications for complete screening requirements.)

Measure Calculation Example

Dr. Ife sees 100 patients with dementia between January 1 and December 31. This is the denominator. There are no exclusions for this measure.

Dr. Ife assesses 50 patients for behavioral and psychiatric symptoms. Of those 50 patients, 25 screen positive and warrant management recommendations. Dr. Ife documents management recommendations for 10 of the 25 patients. The numerator is 35. Twenty-five patients screened with no management needed plus ten patients who screened positive and had management recommendations documented.

Quality of patient care = 35/100. Dr. Ife has a score of 35% for this measure.
