About the American Academy of Neurology

In This Section

The American Academy of Neurology is the world's largest association of neurologists and neuroscience professionals, with more than 40,000 members. The AAN is dedicated to promoting the highest quality patient-centered neurological care. A neurologist is a doctor with specialized training in diagnosing, treating, and managing disorders of the brain and nervous system such as Alzheimer's disease, stroke, migraine, multiple sclerosis, concussion, Parkinson's disease, and epilepsy.

The AAN, like neurology itself, has evolved over a rich and fascinating past since it was incorporated on March 13, 1948. The AAN has over 200 fun, energetic, and hard-working professionals who are dedicated to helping neurologists worldwide provide the best possible care for their patients. The Academy’s headquarters is in the historic Mill District of downtown Minneapolis, and our public policy office is near the action on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.
