Quality Informatics Subcommittee

The Quality Informatics Subcommittee supports the Quality Committee in improving neurologic care by leveraging and optimizing Health Information technology. The subcommittee develops and integrates informatics tools and technologies into AAN quality measures and guidelines.

Job Description

Committee Responsibilities

  • Explore and educate members on modern technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing in quality improvement
  • Support the AAN’s transition to FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource) where appropriate and efforts to develop digitized products
  • Advance data quality through the development of standardized neurological data elements
  • Improve member experience with quality care data collection, reporting, and regulations
  • Increase awareness and promote informatics education for neurologists and trainees to improve the quality of neurology practice, highlighting its values as a medical specialty
  • Collaborate with appropriate external organizations, AAN committee, and AAN subcommittee

Member Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the successful design, implementation, and sustainability of informatics resources for neurology.
  • Attend annual face-to-face meeting(s).
  • Attend quarterly subcommittee calls.
  • Participate in subcommittee listserv discussions and check and respond to email in a timely manner.
  • Vote on subcommittee motions during meetings and via email communications.
  • Serve as liaison to other committees, subcommittees, or external organizations.
  • Copy AAN staff on all subcommittee-related correspondence.

Meeting Schedule 

The subcommittee meets in person one time per year. The subcommittee also has one-hour-long phone meeting approximately five times a year.

Estimated Time Commitment

Five hours per month, annual face-to-face meeting(s), and remaining work takes place by email and/or conference calls.  

Selection/Appointment

Subcommittee members are appointed by the AAN President Elect.
